Cracking the case with StreetHunt Games, London

teamthomastravels

Do you enjoy trying to solve true crime documentaries? Getting outside with your friends? How about exploring beautiful hidden parts of a city? Then you’ll love StreetHunt Games! Part scavenger hunt, part interactive murder mystery, gather your team of super sleuths and take the thrill of puzzle-solving out of the confined spaces of an escape room and onto the vibrant streets of two of England’s finest cities: London and York!

We love absolutely puzzles and scavenger hunts, and so last week we joined Street Hunt Games not far from Chancery Lane, London, to try and solve their drug smuggling murder mystery, the Case of Colombia’s Finest. We’d been sent an email with a link to join the game, and hitting start on our phones, we were immersed into a world of some seriously dodgy goings on... time to search for clues!

The entire experience is self guided, with an interactive map and messages sent directly to your phone. Working in a team of 2-6 people, you have 90 minutes to gather as much information as possible from 15 different characters before submitting who you think did the dastardly deeds. Each ‘contact’ is dotted around the city and you have to make your way to their location in order to speak to them, through some really beautiful hidden squares and side streets. Having lived in London for close to 20 years between us, it never ceases to amaze us how many gorgeous buildings and streets are just off the main tourist trails! Once you arrive at the character’s location, you have to prove that you’re there by answering a cryptic clue about your immediate surroundings – something on a wall, a street name, an architectural feature... it encourages you to look up and take in hidden gems that you’d ordinarily walk right past.

You'd be amazed what you can find one street back from the main drag...

N.B The entire activity is run from your phone, so make sure it's charged. It might be worth bringing a power pack and charging lead just in case. Also, sadly, London seems to be notorious for phone snatching at the moment, so just stay alert and look out for each other as you'll be walking around with your phone out a lot - if you have a wrist strap, we'd recommend using it.

Blending technology, storytelling, and exploration to create an adventure that’s both fun and intellectually stimulating, this was more than a day of sightseeing – it was pretty challenging and took us to some stunning parts of town. This would be a brilliant activity for a stag or hen do, a corporate team building exercise or a detective themed adult’s birthday party! You’ll certainly get your steps in, so wear comfy shoes, but don’t worry, a break at pub is factored in just over halfway through the mission so you can swap notes and take a breather . We’ve promised not to give away any spoilers, but rest assured it’s an iconic, beautiful historic boozer that we absolutely love!
