75 years since the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

teamthomastravels

75 years ago today, the world's first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan. 3 days later, another was dropped on Nagasaki.

We visited Hiroshima in January this year, and while emotionally it was a very hard day (the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum is astonishing, heartbreaking, enlightening), we think it is such an important place to visit.

If you're planning a trip to Osaka in the future, you can easily continue on the Bullet train to Hiroshima to visit the Peace Museum, the A Bomb Dome, the cenotaph and other sites around the city.

Like when we visited Auschwitz, it is the personal belongings on display and stories of the innocent people involved that hit the hardest. And like Auschwitz, this is a place that people must always visit, so that its history can never be repeated.

Perhaps now, more than ever, the world is united against a common struggle - the pandemic that is affecting every country. So let's all take the time to do small acts of kindness, and work together towards a greater whole.

Tonight we'll be raising a glass to world peace. Cheers.
